Welcome to the website for the St. Edmund’s Line Community Rail Partnership.
The Partnership, which covers the line running from Ipswich to Cambridge/Soham, was named following a public competition held at the beginning of 2026. We had an amazing response (over 1000 responses!) and are delighted that so many people took the time to share their views.
St. Edmund was King of the East Angles between 855 and 869. He was sainted because he was killed when he refused to renounce his faith after being captured by the Danes. It is said that a wolf was found guarding Edmund’s head by his followers.
St. Edmund was the Patron Saint of England until 1350, when he was replaced by St. George. His links to the region have long been recognised, making this a very popular name for the line.
